Pretty as they are, those Ranunculus I'm carrying are more than just a prop. They give me something to do with my hands!

I am still struggling with all this poncing about in front of the camera stuff - even after a week, and I'm sure (in fact, I know!) I'll be just as uncomfortable on the thirty-first (and last) day of this 'gig', as I was on the first.

Anyway, enough about me. This is all about raising money for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.

Here are some statistics for you to consider:

 * every ten hours one woman dies from ovarian cancer in Australia

 * in 2010, in the United Kingdom, twelve women died every day from

   ovarian cancer.

 

 * the National Cancer Institute estimates that 14 030 women will

   die from ovarian cancer in the USA this year.

Frocktober Day Five

Today's Frocktober post is dedicated to my lovely bloggy friend Curtise, and to the memory of her dear friend Carol who lost her battle with ovarian cancer thirteen years ago. Curtise writes about this (and growing up in the 70's) on her blog today - you can read about Carol (and catch a glimpse of Curtise doing what she does so well - she puts my feeble attempts at posing to shame!) here.

 

it's gonna get worse folks, that's all I can say...

 

Today's little number is a vintage 70's halter-neck. It is cotton, size 12 (although we're talking old-school size 12) and as fresh as the day it was made. The tag says "Exclusively Virginia Grae". If you like daisies, stripes, spots, primary colours and showing a bit of back this is the frock for you! Send me a note if you're interested. Purchase price will be donated to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation, and I will pay for postage.

 

To date, thanks to the lovely people (that's you guys!) who read this blog, we have raised $1190.50! This money will aid in the development of an early detection test that will save women's lives. This is a bloody good thing, right?!

Frocktober Day Four

It's probably just me...but today's frock reminds me of something hipster nuns might have worn back in the late 60's - you know, when some of them ditched their traditional habits to fit in with the rest of the world...

 

(although, even a hipster nun would've kept her knees covered! In future Frocktober posts, I will be doing that too!)

I reckon Sister George from Where Angels Go, Trouble Follows (along with its prequel, The Trouble With Angels , one of my all-time favourite flicks) could've worn something very similar to this Gala Travelon linen frock. It has something of the uniform about it. I love the little box pleats and brown top-stitching detail though.

 

Perhaps you think I'm talking out of my hymn book with all this Nun stuff, but after all, I've got a bit of a thing for them...Remember?

Frocktober Day Three

I am on fire this arvo! Ha-ha!)

 

Ok, so I know the only thing Sophia and I have in common is our love for pasta (truth be told, there's lamb shanks in that pot - not spaghetti!), but I thought I'd include this pic so that you can see our newly painted kitchen cabinetry. It looks so much better now that all that horrible orangey-oak is covered up with (more than!) a few coats of Murobond Dark Night, don't you think? And once those hideous apricot tiles are replaced with some of these babies



 

- bearing in mind dash for cash ratio - it's going to look pretty snazzy I reckon!

Anyway back to more important things.

It's only day three of me poncing about in a frock, and already, between us, we've raised $920.50 for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation!

What can I say? You guys rock! Your support and generosity has blown me away and I thank you very much.

Today I am wearing a gorgeous frock from the 50's.

It is in beautiful vintage condition - if you'd like to buy it just send me a note - as before, I'll spot for postage.

The vintage net petticoat I am wearing underneath is also for sale. It is white and in perfect condition.  It will make whatever you're wearing puff out very nicely. Indeed. If it's froth, or flounce, or boof you're after, this is the petticoat for you! I'd like $20 for it because I know they're hard to come by, and twenty bucks is a bargain really.       *petticoat sold*

Frocktober Day Two

Golden Brown was one of my favourite songs back (waaay back!) in the Summer of '82. I was only 17, fresh out of high school (a Catholic, all-girls one at that!), as naïve as they come...I had no idea that Hugh and the boys catchy love song, was an ode to Heroin, as I sang along with it whenever it came on the radio.

 

What this useless bit of information has to do with Frocktober, and why I've written about it here, is not worth thinking about...although, I am wearing a brown frock with golden threads running through it, and because of your lovely generous donations I am well and truly over the half-way mark in my fund raising efforts - already, so I am smiling, not frowning. How's that?

 

(I've been away from this blog for a while -  obviously I need practice and a good editor!)

 

 

Anyway, today I am wearing an old, not vintage, but op-shopped, Fleur Wood frock. It is one of my favourites and it only cost me fiddy cents!

 

(Fiddy, btw, has got more in common with The Stranglers than I ever will!)

Frocktober Day One

Here's the first in a series of photos of me trying my best not to look like too much of a dill, frocked-up to raise funds and awareness for Ovarian Cancer Research.

It's not as easy as I make it look you know!



I'm wearing: 80's Masuka frock ex Salvos, crimped hair, and Annabel's boots. I'm posing in the hood (nice, isn't it?!)

 

I actually paid $60.00 to have this little number taken in - some might say:

 

a) what was I thinking?

 

and

 

b) that they could think of better things to do with sixty bucks - like donating it to the Ovarian Cancer Reasearch Foundation, for example!

 

(I know...on reflection...what was I thinking?!)

 

Fashion blunders aside, only one day down, and already, thanks to these lovely sponsors: Anth, Adelaide, Claire, Megan, Vicky, Loo and Al, I have raised $320! To say I'm stoked would be putting it mildly...I guess you could say it: 

 

I hope you'll sponsor me too. It's as easy/safe as buying something from etsy/ebay - just a few clicks and you're done.
