Fin

Dear nice people who read this blog,

I've decided to call it (lucy violet vintage) quits.

I'll always be a blog reader - it's just the writing bit I'm quitting.

Thanks very much for reading, following and for your lovely comments - which are always good reading - usually better than the blog itself actually. They're always funnier that's for sure!

Thank you too for your bloggy friendship. That's been the best part of this whole catastrophe. It's the thing about blogging that took me by surprise and what I will remember and miss the most.

So as a nod to our love for handsome Germans (I'm talking pottery of the fat larva variety), auf weidershen - and to those of you who can't stand the stuff (I know a lot of you think it's ugly) cheerio.

Take care,

Kylie x

  4. Noooooooooooooooo! I've loved reading your blog (and I have learnt quite a bit about modernist architecture and design that I never would have otherwise).

Actually I've been feeling this way lately too. I agree with Bron, it is definitely ok to live your life away from your blog so enjoy!

  5. What?! Oh. No. You're. Not.

Maybe it's the kitchen that's getting you down ... just leave the blog for a bit and come back to it when you're ready.

I won't stand for anything else.

  6. Ditto, Noooooo!!! Lucy Violet Vintage has always been a fav for a good dose of humour, foreigners (of the pottery kind),recipes (in technicolour glory)and an amazing education in all things architectural/artistic and domestic that only a fellow 70's child can appreciate. Have a love/hate relationship with blog writing myself so I know what you mean. Hope the house renos go well and you all get some time to chill. I've been eating lemon butter!

  7. I agree with MMMC. What are we going to do without you? I LOVE YOUR BLOG!!! When I was building my little house, I became overwhelmed, and the blog became a burden, so I had to back off for a while. I hope you'll reconsider at a later date.

We have to know how the kitchen turned out!!!

  11. Kylie, please reconsider...or come back later when you feel like it. I completely agree with your other friends, your blog is one of my favourites. It makes me laugh and look at things differently. I also love your writing style. And what about the much anticipated knob post?!

  17. Oh Kylie, I know how you feel, blogging can be a huge burden on your time and your emotions. You can always come back again. I'll miss your talent and style, but I know you'll succeed at whatever you do next xxoo Jen.

  18. Oh Kylie, please don´t do this... I will miss you and I hope you will stay in contact to me. Yes, I´m totally egoistic to this point. I believe you must have a good reason to do so, but who will entertain me now in such a unique Kylie way?! No more vintage towels, no more kangurus eating chips and no more kitchen bitchen... I must quit to cry a little bit...

Hope to read a little notice in my mailbox from time to time. Send you all my love, Ria

  19. Awwww, Kyles! ( I know you hate that, but it's your punishment for leaving us.)
What happened? Here we all are, waiting with high levels of anticipatory excitement for knobs... And now our hopes are crushed!
I'm sorry you're not feeling the blog love, and I will really miss you. Maybe you need a big old blog holiday, and will return refreshed at some point in the future. That's what I'm hoping anyway. You've been a delicious blog friend to me and Littlest, please do keep in touch. xxxxx

  20. Now hang on a minute. Are you telling me we ( who all put ourselves on the line with kitchen colour advice, painting tips and wallpaper placement options) are being hung out to dry without even a whiff of a completed kitchen post? Or even a progress kitchen post where we get to see those gorgeous dark cupboards. And what about the knob debate? I planned to skive off from work for ten minutes to immerse myself in that post. As always, every one else is too kind and caring to state the obvious, that frankly, you have an obligation to all us loyal addicts to at least resolve these issues before you walk off the job. Your were the first and only person to make me think that west german pottery was not the ugliest thing in the universe. mel x

  22. Sorry you are going Kylie but understand completely. A bit disappointed that we won't get to see the much feted knobs....but hey we'll get over it. I'll miss your blog and styling posts and I'm sure the kitchen will be a huge success.
    All the best. x

  28. Kylie! I am so sad. I hope maybe you'll pop back in now and then to add the odd post or two. Your blog was/is fabulous and funny and I enjoyed it very much. I will miss your posts. Thank you for being such a 'link in legend' too.
PS Small voice cries from the dark - Come Back Kylie!! We love you!!

  29. I did a double take to check if it was April....No...??? Very left field and I don't know how I can possibly accept this? I don't know how to express to you the gap you leave in my decorating/retro reading life. You have opened my eyes to so many things all the while wrapped in a cosy blanket of middle class Catholic schoolgirl upbringing familiarity. Bereft and Lost. xxx
But that is too much "responsibility for my happiness" to lay on anyone's shoulders so thank you for everything. Always have a place to stay here in Tassie land BYO pineapple.

  37. O, darling! Fair cop, I have thought of giving it up myself lately....don't think I will though. You will be missed.
Speaking of fat lava, I just bought a lovely German fat lava off Trade Me. For more than I would have liked to pay, but still a good price, and I thought of you as soon as I saw it and HAD to have it as I have coveted yours so much! XXX

  39. How mad. I quit Instagram and Facebook today, to return to my blog. Sick, PIG SICK, of social media, but my heart is here. I still have your email address so we can swoon over Ladybird books but of my lovely, I am so sad you are going.
What prompted this? No bad experiences or nasty people I hope.....
Can't believe that just as I am back, you are off.
    Darn it.
Take care and do stay in touch pleeeeeease

  40. You have great style Kylie (plus humour ! They don't always come together!!) I have thoroughly enjoyed Lucy Violet Vintage - who may reinvent herself oneday - perhaps - in a new form. How about a final fling - the knobs??????????? You can't leave us in suspense like that, who knows what we might be imagining!!!
    Love Anne (Pineapple Princess)

  41. I'll add my "Nooooooooooo" t the chorus! Thanks for all the fun blog posts. I was thinking of you today when I bought a seventies Noblett wall unit. Isn't "Noblett" just the funniest brand name? There's going to be puns a plenty firing around our place!

  42. Ciao!

    I'll miss you for sure.

  43. Aww and lots of dittos to the above comments. I do want to tell you that you inspired me with your black (sorry can't remember the fancypants colour!) kitchen cupboards, and I've broken out the blackboard paint for the end of our tres boring 90's green plastic pantry. Now I love black so much I won't let the kids write on it - I want it to be black forever..... So you are going to be missed Kylie, but can understand your sentiments (I have my moments too). Sxxx

  44. ummm what???....but what about the knobs??...the kitchen...god its like one of those bloody tv series you get addicted too then its gets axed right at the cliffhanger!!(and you end up with a little crush on the star!!).....just remember I know where you live....if im ever west coast im checkin out that kitchen....and getting your autograph!!....im off to call my therapist!!. 45. Well, I am interested in the details. What drove you crazy? And I am interested in how the kitchen came out. Maybe one more post. Then quit.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Nooo Kylie, you cant leave this space. You are a favourite of mine (and plenty of others by the looks).
    x

    ReplyDelete
  47. You!? Really?! Was it a berserk trollish type or the new found busy vignetting of the study??? That kitchen must be resolved. What you decide to do with the space above the cupboards is what I need to see. You have been funny, stylish, entertaining, tastelessly tasteful and a source of hope and wisdom in some dark times. Hopefully you'll come back here from time to time but you had better keep dropping in or you shall be sadly missed. xxxxx

  48. Lovely Kylie, I diagnose chronic blog-fatigue. I know the feeling. Yours is one of the few blogs that keep me coming back for more nowadays. It's the unique mix of style and personality of course like everyone else has said. I will surely miss this insight into your little world and your voice. I was looking forward to knobs and black kitchens, but you have to do what is right for you, and if that is less blogging, more living, then the very best of luck with that. Thank you for all your lovely comments on my blog, and sincere good luck with everything that is to come. xxx

    ReplyDelete
  49. Please dont. just have a little blog-holiday. It is hard to keep it up, I know how you feel, but we'll be here waiting if you ever want to pick it up again. I think you do great. And look how many lovely followers you have. All the best Kylie. PS can I borrow your Lemon Butter recipe?

So its with great sadness that I come here to read this. I wish you could just take a break like me and come back when the time is right for you. Take lots of care, keep enjoying life with your lovely family, and keep smiling your beautiful smile, hugs dee xxx

  51. Before you jump to conclusions, I've only just added your blog, so you can't accuse me of stealing your name! I will miss you.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oh Kylie, I will miss LVV!! But I know where you are coming from, sometimes things just come to the end of their natural life. I'm sure you will still be commenting and popping up all over the place though. You can always reinvent yourself one day. After all those comments, you must be feeling the love out there in blog land big time! Patsy x x x

  53. Sorry to hear this Kylie. I've enjoyed reading your blog and amazed at the wealth of knowledge you have! I've been thinking the same thing because I'm the laziest blogger....ever. Pop in for a chat every once in a while. We will miss your great humor.. x

  54. What?? Where am I going to get my MC in WA hit? So sad. I've enjoyed your voice on this blog - very real and a lot of fun too!!
    :( xxx

    ReplyDelete
  55. No no Kylie - please reconsider! You must at least show us your completed kitchen (and any other new project you come up with) I'm also relying on you for another great nostalgic linky - the last one was so much fun! Have a break and then think of coming back again - and please make sure you 'visit' from time to time - I'd hate it if you disappeared completely!! xx

  56. Oh Kylie, nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Please don't go. You are genuinely funny and always interesting. I really will miss you. Please keep in touch (I have your address and email so there's no escaping me!) my dear bloggy friend. xxxxxxxx

  57. i don't think it has been a catastrophe, much to the contrary. i think you see it differently to how the reader did experience it, and me not being a native english speaker, nor writer, i've always hugely appreciated your NATURAL FLAIR. and we need natural flair around blogland, kylie!
    d**n!!!!!!
but i love you all the same, what do you think? what next adventure, because, don't tell me you're gonna die?

  64. Oh no? So much left unsaid ...

I second everything that Allison wrote above (apart from the I know where you live part). Best wishes for your future and the future of your kitchen. Im x

  65. OH NOOOO! I feel really bad that I wasn't around to comment on this at the time - was having my own blog hiatus. I hope you didn't think that I didn't care. Have just finally found the time to return and discovered that one of my absolute favourites has given it up :(
I can only echo what everyone else has said - you always had your own very readable voice and your styling and eye was second to none. I don't know why you'd use the word catastrophe - I hope everything is ok? I do understand though, it can be hard to always feel the love for blogging, I go through it myself on a regular basis! I do hope you come back to Lucy Violet or another blog when you have more time. Stay in touch xxx
