Old School, New Cool

Which do you prefer?

(and you might find these amusing(?) from F*** Your Noguchi Coffee Table)

And one more (and you know I could keep going because this is such fun!)

This (it gets an extra-large pic because I love it so),

(this incredible feature fireplace was designed in 1964 by Crites of Crites and McConnell in the USA)

For the record, in most cases, I like both schools*.

p.s.
for another take on that old chestnut - "what goes around comes around" read Eamon Donnelly's post: "On-trend Ideas for Your Home Renovations" on his excellent blog  The Island Continent .

*not a huge fan of peacock chairs. They look lovely, but have you ever tried sitting in one? Maybe The Family Love Tree have upped the comfort factor in their version...the vintage one's I've sat in are tre inconfortable (my nod to Bastille Day), to say the least.

  4. I'm old enough to have seen it firsthand, watch it go out of style and then come back again. There really is nothing new under the sun...so, like you, I like old and "new" school.

  12. I love the old school fireplace! Yesterday I saw a peacock chair in the op shop in the neighbourhood and thought yes, this looks marvelous, but did I realy want to sit on it? I believe design and fashion is the same, both are turning around every 20-30 years. xx, Ria

  13. I like it all. I am with Dana. I have been around the block on this. I grew up in 70's chic and am re-introducing it into my own life now. I am particularly obsessed with Preway Fireplaces. I can get them on eBay and Craigslist and want to install one in my fantasy outdoor room outside my fantasy new kitchen.

  15. I cant help but like the new ones better. Less cluttered, more white. But I think half the problem is the browniness of all the retro images. Would be interesting to see them regraded and on new glossy paper. Thanks for sharing all those lovely links. Love the Island Continent! Tres bon

  16. I had to read this a couple of times to realise that some of these images were new. You've found some corkers there. On the whole I prefer the new ones, but that one with the african violets and of course that amazing fireplace pic are great. I have actually sat in a peacock chair (my aunt had one) so I know what you mean: you squirm around for a bit trying to find a position which doesn't make your back ache, then give up and sit on a normal chair! xx

  17. Gorgeous images all, Kylie - don't make me choose!
The peacock/porn star chair may be uncomfortable but doesn't it look fab? Macrame, I can live without, but I like all the other retro-tastic looks. xxxx

  19. I am definitely old school, old school, old school. Old school was there first and it doesn't look styled to the point of corny. I mean, look at that photo of me on the peacock chair!! New school I can do without (that doesn't include our good mate OuchFlower though).

  20. See it's all been done before! That's one freaky George Jetson fireplace, quite like the one before it though.
