A Modernist Gingerbread House. In case you were wondering! Inspired by this one.
(and I had such high hopes too!)
The sad thing - apart from the house itself of course - is that the gingerbread, which I baked from scratch, was a triumph. A triumph I tell you!
God what a mess, and I can't even blame it on the girls! It's mine...all mine! Anthony just walked past it and laughed (note: I said Anthony, not Anth), and there's royal icing everywhere!
Thanks for sending me the link Zara, so sorry I didn't do it justice (you'll see).
(Now I'm even more anxious about those 3D models I'm meant to come up with next year - can you blame me!?)
Thank you for reading, and following, and commenting on my posts this year. I really appreciate it, and your bloggy friendship. You are all lovely and funny and kind and clever. Happy Christmas everyone, here's to a wonderful 2013!
p.s. best Christmas present ever!
the Jedster's got the ALL CLEAR!
(these pics were taken before his op - he's still wearing the cone of silence - boy does he need a bath!)
Ahhh, the Jedster's going to be fine - that IS good news!
ReplyDeleteLove all your Christmas decs, the vintage baubles look lovely in the bowl, and the gaggle of Santas (I'm sure that isn't the right collective noun but never mind) are great.
I admire your ambition in making the gingerbread house, I bet it was really tricky. Naughty Anthony for sniggering, he won't be getting any of the delicious gingerbread!
Have a very very happy Christmas, Kylie.
PS. A wee package arrived for Littlest, which is under the tree, I am thanking you in advance! You are so kind to her, and she loves feeling special! xxxxx
Most definitely the best Christmas present.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's just snowing where your gingerbread house is?
I wish you and your family a happy Christmas Kylie. I am so glad I discovered your blog.

You are such a lovely blogger thank you for finding me and encouraging me to keep writing and write I did ;-)!!. Glad your little one got the all clear. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year... can't wait to see what's on the 2013 agenda at Lucy Violet Vintage! xx Tina
I love that you took photos of it anyways and showed us....I bet it will taste so yum...we just stuck with gingerbread men!

Yay, that's the best Christmas present of all, little Jed will be o.k! Merry Christmas Kylie and family, xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely home you have! So full of wonderful twinkly treasures. I love the way you have assembled things; the Father Christmases next to your stoneware pots. You even have a Merry Christmas tray!
ReplyDeleteGlad your sweet boy is out of danger. I admire gingerbread houses in general, and yours in particular. It is unique!!
Happy Christmas to you and yours. x
Such lovely decorations and a gingerbread wouldn't be a gingerbread house without a little imperfection, I'm sure it tasted good! Have a magical Christmas xxx
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI think it's a cute house and better than I could do! I love baking gingerbread all year round. Have really enjoyed following your blog this year and thank you for the coasters and quilt cover. I think of you everytime I put it on Little Miss' bed. xxx
ReplyDeleteOh wow! Look at how festive your home looks :)
ReplyDeleteI think your gingerbread house if imperfectly perfect and I bet it will taste divine.
Great news about Jed, bet that has lifted a weight of your mind.
Will pop your dress into the post tomorrow.
x
Hoorah for Jedstar. That's fabulous news. Mmmm, the gingerbread house - not so fabulous but I applaud you for trying. And anyway, who cares what it looks like, I bet it tastes yum. Have a good one, lovely. xxxxx
ReplyDeleteNow, firstly, the dekkers and the tray are so so so wonderful. The news about your pup is the best present ever. About the house. Is it too evil of me to admit that the first words that popped into my mind were " gingerbread ghetto"? And worse to then add that on closer inspection that the left hand front wall appears to have Rudolph baked into it with just his eyes and nose visible? You are a total legend for sharing and I so love visiting your blog and so appreciate all the wonderful return comments you leave on mine. (feel free to completely have open slather on commentary on my gingerbread house that is due to be attempted tomorrow pending the latest turn of events with the gastro doing the rounds of my house) mel x
ReplyDeleteOh my. I think the icing was where it started to go a bit pear-shaped. At least it tastes good and you've had your trial run for bigger and better next year.
ReplyDeleteThat is great news about your puppy dog too.
x
Kylie, your Christmas house is gorgeous, I love it!! All the vintage stuff is so great, and the news about Jedster- the greatest gift ever, I' so happy for you!
ReplyDeleteOnce again, I wish you and your loved ones the most wonderful Christmas!
All the best x
The vintage Santas are amazing. Merry Christmas! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so impressed that you made your gingerbread from scratch! We'll have to try that next year (along with some epoxy). :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad the news about Jed was good and that he'll soon be released from the terrible cone.
Have a wonderful Christmas with your family!
Merry Christmas Kylie to you and yours!
ReplyDeleteHow impressive, making your own gingerbread house, all I could knock up were a few mince pies. LOVE all your vintage decs, takes me back to my childhood. Great news about the mutt, you must be stoked.

Wonderful news about Jed, great Christmas Present. Great first attempt at a GB house, who cares what it looks like, that fab plate makes up for it all! Take Santa off the Roof and tell everyone its from A Little Town called Bethlehem! Merry Christmas to you all, looking forward to 2013.
ReplyDeleteMerry Merry Christmas Kylie!
ReplyDeleteI love all your Christmas decor.
Even the gingerbread house *hehe* The best news is that Jed is good to go. He's SO CUTE!!
Merry Christmas Kylie!
ReplyDeleteI'm salivating over that house! It'd pain me to destroy it though.
Those Santas look cheeky, sometimes creepy and very Merry (too much Sherry trifle?).
Such good news about the patient - something to celebrate indeed.
Hope you all have a fantastic Christmas, where your kindness is reciprocated. You've entertained me so much this year - thank-you.
Lucy x
As I scrolled down the page through your pics (I tend to do that and then go back through slowly) I did do the electronic version of a 'double-take' at the gingerbread house. I think it is a pretty good effort actually and you should give yourself a pat on the back!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear about the little cutie in the last pics :)
Oops missed this one, darn reading list!Love the Santas.Wasn't going to do the gingerbread house thing this year, almost had an avalanche and had to resort to toothpicks. Like the mod house idea better.Glad Jed got the all clear. Ditto on last comment's wishes.
ReplyDeleteMerry Xmas, Kylie! I hope you have a lovely Xmas day with your family.

Yay for jedster!!! Your gingerbread house looks fine-its just the wrong kind of snow!mine-ye olde fasion type is constructed, but as yet undecorated. I took to knitting in the garden to unwind after the madness of clauds birthday party and i haven't shifted since!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful christmas kylie and co xxx
Your home looks gorgeous loving your sideboard and deocrations and your German vases. Hope you have had a wonderful christmas. Wishing you a magical new year filled with laughter and fun, hugs, dee x
ReplyDeleteHope you ha a wonderful Christmas Kylie. So pleased you jedster is on the mend. Now the house...I was thinking how fab it was until I clicked on your inspiration. Ahhh well I bet it was delish. My poor kids were deprived of a gingerbread house this year and I have only ever assembled a premade one.
ReplyDeleteLove the gingerbread house Kylie, it's fab. Reminds me of the house Charlie Bucket lived in (charlie & choc factory). Very festive. Love all your little santas. Well done and a Merry Christmas to you!
ReplyDeleteI think you did a great job with the gingerbread house. I have never attempted to make one but I may give it a go next year
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! x
Hoping you had a wonderful holiday. Will see you in the new year for sure and thank you for your bloggy friendship!!! It has been really fun. Happy New Year! Rebecca
