Way To a Man's Heart
Yes! The way to a man's heart is definitely through his stomach. Fix a man a good and satisfying meal and he will do anything for you. It mellows him, makes him feel contented. It keeps him in good health.
So that's where I'm going wrong!

While I love her snazzy Frigidaire (great product name, don't you think - almost as wonderful as Gayware) this post is all about the canisters.

Gayware was made by Gay Plastics from 1959 - 1965. I think it was manufactured in Australia, but type the word gay in google search and you're led a merry dance to all sorts of interesting places - none of them involving the manufacture of plastics!
Gayware canisters are quite the in-thing these days and a full set of five is usually pretty pricey. Anthony (who loves his canisters) has managed to pick up a couple from swap meets and garage sales for next to nothing (a red S and a black R, plus a few odd little spice canisters) but it was me, me, ME I tell you, who found our full set, all five, (in perfect nick) for ten bucks!
Here they are
in all their pink and grey glory
and
it's not just their fronts that are simple and stylish
look at their
bottoms!

Oooh you lucky duck! I Love gayware canisters, the shape the colour - I am looking out for a pastel coloured set for my new kitchen. melx
ReplyDeleteThese old ads are hilarious aren't they? I wish I looked as glamorous as the lady with the mellow and content husband when I am cooking :) Love your canisters, score! I am pleased you had success with the bread & hope your Kitchen Aid is up and running again soon!
ReplyDeleteSo cool! I love the pink and gray. This is a brand I wasn't familiar with. Thanks for a really interesting post.
ReplyDeletesomehow the food-thing reminds me of betty draper. isn't she always waiting on don, with a nibble at the ready? funny.
ReplyDeletegayware. the very thought of it. all sorts of connotations, as you pointed out.

Magnifico Kylie!! Love love love. Never seen that stuff here though - if only.
ReplyDeleteGreat find,I remember wearing pink and grey in the 80's!,guess "what goes around comes around".
ReplyDeleteWowsers. What a fabulous find. They are stunning. I love it that Anthony loves his cannisters. Unfortunately, Jim isn't a lover of them *sad face*. I know I'm a complete idiot but what do the letters stand for? Oh hang on I think I've answered my own question: flour, sugar, tea, coffee and something beginning with R. Yay! xx
ReplyDeleteGreat find, Kylie, they look fab, and love the adverts. xxx
ReplyDeleteIn teen speak "that's gay" not it's "awesome"! Even more awesomner is your thrifty find husband! I didn't get me one of those but he is macramé tolerant!
ReplyDeleteThat's what I need in my life. Some gayware cannisters! *lol*
ReplyDeleteScore on finding the set for only $10 *WOW*
They are fab and look nicer in real life than in the photo. I think you got the best colour combination there - I've always liked those shades of grey and pink together. I've never heard of this make before also - it must have been made and sold only in Australia (?)
ReplyDeleteMy friend inherited his pink and grey set from his mother and he loves it to bits. He is also Gayware too!
ReplyDeleteNow that is one awesome find Kylie!!
ReplyDeleteThey're gorgeous. $10!!?? Did you know the incredibly generous and lovely MMMC sent me a full set of five in a blog kitchen swap? I know!! I was stumped. I wonder if she's regretting this now...
ReplyDeleteI am totally in love with them! I meant to add.
DeleteWow! I have MAJOR canister envy. What a find and at such a great price! You must have done a little happy dance at the register buying those! Love love love them. x
ReplyDeleteThey're fab - why don't we get gayware? No fair!
ReplyDeletePink and grey- one of my fav colour combos. And how lucky are you getting the set at $10. Go you.
