Sometimes it's all about timing...this afternoon I popped into a little op-shop I rarely visit just as an old couple were dropping off a large box of donations. Even though it was nearly closing time the lovely ladies who run the shop let me unpack the boxes with them and take home whatever caught my fancy. How cool and wonderful is that? Pretty damn cool and wonderful I say!

Most of the things I chose have come from Japan, which has made me stop and think once more about the tragic situation there... for a country that deeply respects nature (just think of their poetry, calligraphy, beautiful gardens, art, bonsai and ikebana...) it is such a cruel and savage blow.

Just look at the detail in this beautiful tea cup...

You should see it in the flesh, so beautiful.

And there's incredible detail here too

Japanese too, but so different to the treaures above...I love the colours in the glaze especially the turquoise

Then there's the mass produced stuff made in the 50's, 60's and 70's which will always have a place in my heart because it's so cheerful and kitschy. Like these examples I found today...

All quite lovely don't you think? I'll definetely visit that little shop again!
I also bought MORE religionalia but this one's REALLY special...

Hand painted. four dollars.

And have a look at the back

I wish I knew what it said.

I feel another French hang coming on...our house is turning into a church!

While I'm on the subject of religion here's todays t. towel...

Happy St Patricks Day.
I hope you have/had a good one.
(it's not very old, but I thought it appropriate!)

  5. Beautiful Japanese finds. So nice to be reminded of the beauty of the country after all the appalling images on the news.
