Here are my final 'projects' in Justina Blakeney's online Stylin It course (a.k.a. The Fundamentals to Styling Your Space Like a Pro).
First up the boudoir
This is it after I styled it like a pro.
(ha-ha!)
Doesn't that ply headboard look good? I just wish it was attached to the wall instead of propped against it for the photos!
(oh the cliches I could trot out here, how about "Rome wasn't built in a day" for starters?!)
And here's what it looked like before:
All a bit blah - even the Jedster (enticed with a slice of cheese) fails to liven it up.
That's better.
It's amazing what that darker linen does. Even the purpley-grey walls look better (we're still repainting them though Anth!).
What do you think of my Bentwood bedside table? It's a stop-gap (instant replacement - back to the kitchen straight after photos!) until the headboard's built. We (ie. Anthony) is building boxy, shelvey things from ply where we'll keep our books, lamps, glasses of water and other boudoiry things...
Next up, (and for me, the hardest and least successful 'project')
the bookcase.
As it was:
and how it finished up:
hmmmmm?
(as far as I'm concerned, bookshelves should be for books. A few knicks-knacks here and there - fine, but I would find it annoying having to dismantle my little displays every time I reached for a book, wouldn't you?)
Justina's course was great, I really enjoyed it, but now it's time to finish the real Mc Coy. I tell you, it'll be happy days when that's done and dusted!
bedtime story?
(picked up from a little vintage shop down South on our recent mini break, and for you Pippa. I also scored some iittala (for me), but that's another story...)
x
I reckon the changes are great! I really do hope your reading that glass book before bed each night! Xx
ReplyDeleteWow Kylie, you are stylin' like a pro! I love all the after shots. I even like the grey boudoir walls!
ReplyDeletep.s. Thanks for the lovely comments for Ind, she is always so chuffed! She has been busy today painting and drawing cards too :)
I love your place Kylie, full of interesting bits and pieces and styled like a pro :)
ReplyDeleteit makes such a huge difference to the room just the plainest headboard-amazing! the headboard/shelving thingy sounds very interesting, looking forward to seeing that styled. totally agree re the moving books thing-practical styling, making the everyday stuff you use look better is my idea of good styling. ps love the zigzag bedclothes x
ReplyDeleteAnother gorgeous and stylish room, Kylie! Beautiful bedding and the headboard looks fab. So does your shelf, but no, not practical to keep moving the precious things every time you want a book!
ReplyDeletePS. Nina loves her little owly bag, thank you so much! xxxx
Sensational! I can't get enough. More, more!
ReplyDeleteDear Kylie,
ReplyDeleteso I have the chance to see your bed restyling because I missed it in class. It´s so lovely as all your other projects. I like the warm yellow all over your home. It feels like everything fits together now. WELL done, Justina would mention!!
Thanks for sharing! xo, Ria
I've thoroughly enjoyed this little styling series, Kylie. That's mainly because I get to have a sticky beak (that's your saying isn't it?) at your fabulous home. "Adventure in Swedish Glass" sounds a fascinating read. Seriously. xx
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the re-styles. The wood really warms things up and brings balance to the space. I use a statement wall of homemade and local art pieces above my bed as a statement and to balance the tall ceilings.
ReplyDeleteIt looks really smashing, Kylie, I'm really impressed! I love the combination of patterns in that last photo, it looks wonderful! xx
ReplyDeleteI love the changes. It just shows what a little change around can do!

I love these views of your house, particularly like seeing the shot of and beyond the bookcase, feels like bonus views. That dark linen does make a difference. You really look like you have had fun! xxx
ReplyDeleteI like your style. Thank you for shareing, fantastic job :) Cheers
ReplyDeleteThese were really interesting before and after pictures. I like these "style like a pro" skills you have learned. I am really curious because I am always trying to observe how pictures are styled. I am of the other opinion on shelves, that shelves are for knick knacks. I have gone almost all "e" with books due to a very dampish type home....I gave almost all of them to the library except my picture books...(art and houses). My son has a ton and I can't get rid of his childhood books, but I have them safely boxed up.
ReplyDeletelove the colours in the bedroom kyles...right up my street. that wall colour doesn't glow lilac at night does it?...we had similar in our old place and it looked like a nursing home at night time (not me I might add just the walls!)x
ReplyDeleteWow, what a difference the bedhead has made, you are doing some very cool things with ply at your place. mel x
ReplyDeleteWow! Gorgeous styling! The bedroom especially.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the ply. What a difference it makes. I want you to come and style my place.gorgeous floral cushion and the layering with the blanket have a big impact too. Amazing just a few bits take it to new level. Leax
ReplyDeleteOh my word!! I really love the bedroom pic. You have done an amazing job!! I'm sure you would have blitzed the course. Styling is your calling! And the bookshelf is great too. I agree - too many knick knacks equals - pain and dusting!!
ReplyDeleteLove the Bedhead makes such a difference - you make it look so easy, you're obviously a natural at it - Jen.
ReplyDeleteWell I totally love it, looks straight out of a magazine!
ReplyDeleteGOOD JOB Kyile
Just perfect, I love the colours you have used. It has such a lovely calming feel and looks like you want to curl up all suggly to write or read. You have such a great eye for colour.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are having a wonderful weekend.
love V
PS thank you so much for the lovely comment on the "Spaces", it seems like a life time ago. I get a little sad looking at it now, we lost so much of what is shown.
Anyway it has been so nice to meet you through the wonders of blogland, I just love seeing your world and becoming friends. XXXXX
You are the ply princess. My mother in law has a groovy Parker version of bedhead with attached box/ drawer things which I would love to slip an ensemble into. She has relegated it to her spare room. It has matching tall boy, sideboard and dining suite!!! I know.
ReplyDeleteThe after looks amazing , great job!
ReplyDeleteMeghan Silva's Blog
i love what you show us, and how you do it. it's all about restyle touches, innit? it is inspiring, making me itch...
ReplyDeleteps - haven't made it to the post office. the busyness doesn't let up, it's weird too. i am thinking of you though, getting thoroughly embarrassed. i know you don't mind, and i'm gently holding you to that. and i also miss you.
i hope you are fine. ALL of you.

Lovely styling Kylie, orange is definitely your colour. Guilty of books and junk shelves over here. Didn't realise the Better Homes and Garden Book was so huge. Can't wait to see what bedhead Hubby comes up with.
