Vintage Tea Towel Tuesday

Royal Engagement by Ulster, Irish Linen, Made in Ireland

Two things on this one:

it is the most expensive tea towel I have ever bought

(and I don't even like it that much)

and

how it managed to make it past quality control

I'll never know!

I'll leave it with you...what d'ya reckon?

  1. I love Irish linen tea towels ... my mum and I send them to each other all the time. I've got heaps! I like this one, Diana's skewed face and oversized nose add to the charm :)

  2. I think I prefer the Kate&Will offerings, to this but if your a professional tea towel collector, then the collection comes first and wouldn't be the same without it! Just put it to the back and we won't say another thing about it! LOL :)

  3. I had to do a double-take to be sure that was even Lady Di. I don't think I've ever seen that particular artistic take on hair. What's up with that?

  4. Oh boy, Diana looks like a man with a beaver on her head! Scary. But so collectable. So nice to have you back on a regular front- hope your house stuff is going well. melx

  8. Great collectors piece - The Royal Engagement! Not the best Diana likeness (although they did very well with Charles didn't they?), I agree with Pippa that it's a must have.

  9. Charles is looking steely; like a stallion who says, "I see tragedy in my future".

And Diana says, "I see a bit wonky because of my gammy right eye".

  10. She looks like she has a hedgehog for hair! i do love those ulster teatowels (excellent for breadmaking purposes). Hope you had a teatowel or two handy in the car when your daughter was 'unwell' (!!!) x

  12. It's imperfections make it perfect! :-) I'm pretty partial to a badly rendered portrait of someone famous, all the better if it is someone royal, there have been some shocking likenesses of the Queen with all the Jubilee madness this year!

  13. Hahahaha, that's even worse than the Ronnie Corbett Queen I found for the Jubilee! What's up with poor Di's eyes? One's higher than the other! Although Prince C is looking steely indeed as MMC says - Blue Steel, like in Zoolander!

  16. Haha, it's hilarious! As a professional t-t collector, you HAD to have it, Kylie, in all its weird, off-kilter over-(Charlie) and under-flattering (Di) glory. Classic! xxx

  18. Erm, its quite grotesque isn't it. Maybe Camilla drew the pic of Diana?;).... xx

  19. Its not the best likeness of her is it but then I suppose she was still Shy Di and not the glamour icon she became later. We have lots of 'new' Irish linen tea towels for sale here (well duh!) but I've never seen any vintage ones yet - I always look out for them since you started these posts!

  20. One has no idea how one copes with ones face on ones tea towel... anyhooo... one must consider that one will probably never see ones face on a tea towel... :-)

  21. At least it's immaculate condition?? haha I still think it's pretty nice even if her face isn't quite right. x

  22. What a disservice to poor Diana. I think the Queen had something to do with that!

  23. That has to be the dodgyest picture of Diana I have ever seen. She looks like a total boy! Quite cute really, Kat x
